Why do the same painful patterns keep returning, even when the people and situations look different? Gurudev reminds us that what repeats in our lives is often not the outer event, but the inner reaction we carry. When old memory, fear, or hurt stays unconscious, it keeps shaping how we think, feel, and respond. This teaching invites us to look deeper and see how witness begins to loosen what reaction keeps alive.
The purpose of I AM Yoga is to learn how to shift your body-mind from a tool of the ego-mind that destroys your life to a powerful tool of consciousness. Your ego has habitually monopolized the body-mind, separating you from the ecstasy of the Being that I AM. I AM Yoga empowers you by revealing the secret of how to use the body-mind as a powerful medium to restore your health and transform your life.
All experiences and feelings are primarily thought induced. This means when you change your thoughts about yourself, others, and the world, it changes your whole life. The world you live in is the world you shaped by the way you thought about it. ‘About it’ comes from you, not it. It is the object. You are the subject, the creator—the creator of the quantum shift that appears in the object.
What you have created in the outer world of objects is a quantum shift creation which is first created in your mind. The observer-created outer world is encoded in the mystical teachings of India. This has been recently explained through the observer-created quantum creation.
The body-mind is in fact an extension of your soul. When used as a tool of ego-mind, it can destroy your life. You are the creator of everything that you experience in your life and around yourself. Know that the mind-made creation is not your creation; rather, it is the creation of the ‘alien’ ego that you have identified with as if it were you. The practice of yoga is to ‘fire’ the alien self-image and hire the witness.
All the self-destructive creations that appear in your body are created at the level of the mind. The moment you withdraw the mind’s domination over the energy body, the innate wisdom of your body naturally and effortlessly restores the health and wellbeing that the mind cannot. Your desires carry both attachment and fear. When your divided mind dominates the co-creative interaction between your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, it turns your body into a battleground of conflict within itself.
I AM Yoga practice empowers you to use your thinking as a powerful tool of consciousness. Most people do not know that thoughts are things. This means that the thoughts you create can be made manifest both in your body or outside of your body. All human creation happens at the level of thinking before it becomes verbal or physical.
The moment you identify with angry or fearful thoughts, you are saying that I AM = my anger and fear. The sympathetic Being that I AM (consciousness) is replaced with “I am my angry and fearful thoughts.” In other words, the I AM sympathetic Presence is taken over by ego-mind as a creator. It uses the parasympathetic lifeforce energy as its medium to manifest anger and fear into bodily-felt toxic chemical manifestations. Disharmony occurs when the natural co-creative interaction between consciousness (sympathetic) and energy (parasympathetic) is replaced by ego-mind’s abusive use of energy.
Most people do not know that they are suffering from inbuilt self-created, mind-made internal conflicts. These are recreated no matter where they go, what they do, or whom they are with. Through the practice of I AM Yoga, you will learn the secret art of how to dismantle unconscious conflicts built into your own personally-created, karmic memory blocks. These memory blocks act as a ‘subject.’ They are superimposed over the one who triggers reaction but fail to see that the subject that I AM has in fact appeared in the form of an object. This is the basic self-deception that is the fundamental source of all self-caused suffering.
You have built your conceptual self-image about yourself, others, and the world thought by thought, brick by brick. You have built a wall that keeps you from reaching back to yourself. Nothing that appears in you in the form of physical, mental, or emotional blocks is built by someone else. No one has entry to your psyche other than you. What appears both in your body and in your outer world is your personal creation.
When you think angry thoughts about others, on some level you want them to pierce the other. But you don’t know that any negative thoughts or emotions you aim towards others are simultaneously aimed at your own body. This shows that there is no separation between you and the other, other than what you made up in your mind that separates you from yourself.
Your mind is a powerful tool of creation. It can be the tool of your consciousness that brings you into harmonious interaction between your body and mind, and between you and the other. However, it is usually used as a tool of your ego mind that lives in conflict with your body.
What you can mentally create in your body you can manifest in the outer world of objects as well. The medium of creation is parasympathetic energy. As each human being has a limited amount of energy accessible, if you excessively use it, you will weaken your thyroid and adrenal glands. At this point, you have abused your energy so excessively that you have only limited access to manifest change, or to control or direct anything in your body—or in your life.
Humanity has collectively evolved to function from identification with their mind-made sense of ‘who I am.’ This has been an evolution from the subconscious polarity into the self-conscious identity with mind-made manifestation and creation of the world. But this approach is so limited that it prevents you from stepping out of your keyhole perception of creation into the vast world of reality that you know nothing about. I am not talking about information about the world. I am talking about the world of the reality that you are.
Everything that you think about yourself, others, or the world is conditioned by your parents, siblings, society, culture, education, and surroundings. The mind has no access to anything outside of that.
Reactive emotional interactions originate at the level of thinking. At this level, the interaction is between your preprogrammed ways of reacting and your awareness. Your emotionally charged reactive thinking is compulsive. It has become mechanical and habitual. With repetition, it has been hardwired into your personality. Your personality is your personal creation out of the impersonal world of reality through which you have been journeying through the medium of the mind in the dimension of time.
Pacifying your thoughts, stopping your thoughts, or thinking positive thoughts to overcome the power of hardwired habitual thoughts is a very difficult task. I AM Yoga practice is designed to help you to understand the underlying invisible relationship between you and yourself. This relationship is the secret. It is the knowledge. Everything that you know about yourself, others, and the world is created as protection for your ego. It has no real life. But it has been using the real parasympathetic lifeforce energy to protect itself.
Since there is no real existence to your reactively-processed self-concepts and conceptual understanding about people, places, and things, every time you indulge your reactive thinking, you are using your own real lifeforce to protect your ego. Since there is no real existence to your ego, the energy that is used for fighting the enemy outside creates energy blocks and memory blocks inside.
The father of ancient yoga, Patanjali, in his opening yoga sutra says, “The discipline of Yoga happens Now.” In the second sutra he directs us to withdraw from the mind-made sense of ‘I am’ that travels in the dimension of time. In order to achieve that, he explains, “Yoga means witnessing the modifications of mind.”
The way out is not through force, blame, or trying to control every thought. It begins when we pause long enough to witness what is moving inside us. As awareness grows, the pattern starts to lose its grip, and what once repeated unconsciously can finally be seen clearly. This is where healing begins, and where karma no longer has to keep writing the same story.
